Cross-Border Marriage Service

Awan Legal, provides Cross-Border Islamic Nikah/Marriage Services for adults who wish to solemnize their Nikah while living in different cities or countries.

We assist couples with the arrangement and coordination of Nikah by phone or other remote means, including verbal Nikah, Nikah with a Nikah Letter, and Nikah without a Nikah Letter, subject to applicable Islamic requirements and the laws of the relevant jurisdiction.

Our aim is to provide a convenient, confidential and professionally coordinated Nikah service for couples who are unable to be physically present at the same location.

What We Offer

1. Cross-Border Nikah by Phone

We facilitate the arrangement of an Islamic Nikah where the bride and groom are located in different places, including different countries, subject to the applicable Sharia requirements.

2. Verbal Islamic Nikah

Couples may request a verbal Nikah, commonly described as an Islamic Sharia Nikah, with the required offer and acceptance (Ijab and Qabool) conducted in the presence of the required witnesses and Imam.

3. Nikah with Nikah Letter

Where the parties require written evidence of the Nikah, Awan Legal can assist with arranging the relevant Nikah Letter/documentation.

4. Nikah without Nikah Letter

Where the parties only require the solemnization of the Islamic Nikah and do not require a written Nikah Letter, we can facilitate the process accordingly, subject to the applicable requirements.

5. Imam & Witnesses

Awan Legal can arrange an Imam to conduct the Nikah and two adult Muslim male witnesses, where required.

6. Wali Arrangement

Under the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence, an adult, sane Muslim woman may, in specified circumstances, contract her own marriage without a Wali being a mandatory condition of validity. However, requirements can differ according to the school of thought, circumstances and applicable law.

If a bride wishes to have a Wali participate in the Nikah, or if a Wali is required in the relevant circumstances, Awan Legal can assist with arranging or coordinating the Wali.

Basic Requirements

The following information is required from the bride and groom:

  • Groom’s full name

Additional documents or information may be required depending upon the circumstances of the parties and the country in which they reside.

Important Legal Information

An Islamic Nikah and a legally registered marriage are not necessarily the same thing. The legal recognition, registration, immigration consequences and documentary requirements of a marriage may differ from country to country.

A Nikah conducted remotely or by telephone may also be subject to specific legal and Sharia requirements depending upon the circumstances and jurisdictions involved.

Accordingly, clients should obtain appropriate legal advice regarding marriage registration, family law, immigration, visa, inheritance, citizenship and other legal consequences in the relevant country.

Awan Legal provides legal assistance and coordination in relation to the services described above, but the religious validity and legal recognition of a Nikah may depend upon the applicable facts, Islamic jurisprudential requirements and law of the relevant jurisdiction.

Confidential & Professional Service

We understand that marriage matters are personal and confidential. Awan Legal maintains professional confidentiality in dealing with clients and their personal information, subject to applicable law and professional obligations.
